Lalitpur/ Premier International IB Continuum School has officially relaunched ‘Tato Khana,’ a community-driven initiative designed to highlight the importance of hot meals and collective social responsibility.
The event, held at Jawalakhel Park, was graced by Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan, Metropolitan Police Chief Sitaram Hachhethu, and officials from the Ministry of Education. Students, parents, and school employees actively participated, emphasizing the initiative’s message of sharing and support.
Originally introduced as a social movement, ‘Tato Khana’ aims to raise awareness about the significance of warm, nutritious meals. The program was put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but its relaunch reinforces the idea that a hot meal symbolizes more than just nourishment—it represents dignity, care, and community support.
Unlike traditional food distribution programs, ‘Tato Khana’ provides meals at a nominal price of NPR 10, promoting the value of shared responsibility. Additionally, individuals can contribute by donating meals to those in need while ensuring their dignity is preserved.
Pawitra Limbu, Director of Premier International IB Continuum School, emphasized the deeper impact of the initiative:
"A hot meal is not just food—it is a gesture of warmth, dignity, and care. ‘Tato Khana’ serves as a reminder to share our resources and stand in solidarity with those in need. More than providing meals, this initiative instills values of empathy and social responsibility within our community.”
Expressing his support, Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiri Babu Maharjan stated:
"Programs like ‘Tato Khana’ showcase how small actions can drive significant social change. The Lalitpur Metropolitan City stands behind this initiative, and we look forward to its continued growth in a sustainable way.”
The event fostered a strong sense of community, encouraging discussions on resource appreciation, mindful consumption, and the culture of giving. Moving forward, ‘Tato Khana’ will take place every Sunday from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Jawalakhel Park, inviting individuals from all backgrounds to participate—whether by purchasing a meal, contributing to someone else’s, or spreading the message of kindness and generosity.
